Low-code adoption in enterprises is rapidly becoming a game-changer in software development. According to a global survey of 2,000 IT decision-makers and C-level executives conducted by Mendix, a low-code platform under Siemens, 98 percent of companies already utilize low-code in some capacity. Non-technical decision-makers largely drive the rise of low-code solutions, with 49 percent citing cost savings as the primary reason for their adoption.
Cost-Savings and Productivity Boost
While cost reduction is important, low-code also offers other benefits. 80% of executives say it boosts IT team productivity, 79% note it reduces operational costs, and 73% report it speeds up time-to-market, keeping businesses competitive.
This combination of productivity, cost-efficiency, and speed makes low-code a top choice for COOs and CEOs aiming to streamline operations and innovate quickly. With 53 percent of respondents viewing digital transformation as the main use case, low-code proves essential for enterprises looking to rethink their business models and customer interactions.
Driving Innovation with AI
A key trend is the integration of low-code with AI applications. Eighty-five percent of respondents believe this combination accelerates innovation, automates complex tasks, and enhances decision-making, positioning businesses for long-term growth.
Despite its growth, low-code faces challenges. While 75% of executives see it as the future, 41% lack technical expertise, and 39% focus on labor cost savings, missing its broader strategic potential.
The Need for Training and Governance
Despite its benefits, governance and proper use of low-code raise concerns for 80% of respondents. Additionally, 85% see training as essential, but nearly a third of companies hesitate to invest due to cost or perceived lack of importance.
In conclusion, while low-code adoption revolutionizes software development, successful implementation hinges on comprehensive training and governance. Companies that invest in these areas will be well-positioned to harness the full potential of low-code in the years to come.
